  5. Haiku • Haiku • Usually paints a picture of something in nature • Usually starts with a vivid image in line one • Line 2 contains an interesting transition • Line three contains a different image

  6. Occupation Poem • Line 1: • Name of occupation - three adjectives describing this person • Lines 2 and 3: • Two activities this person does often • Lines 4 and 5: • Two job-related questions this person might ask himself or herself (begin with "will," "can," "would," "could," and "should") • Line 6: • Finish the sentence "The world needs me to (because) ..."

  7. Occupation Poem Example Nurse Nurse - caring, gentle, patient. Always taking temperatures; Holding trembling hands. Will I know the right words to say? Can I bring comfort? The world needs me to ease its pain.

  8. I Am 1st stanza I am (two characteristics) I wonder (something you are curious about) I hear (an imaginary sound) I see (an imaginary sight) I want (something you want) I am (the first line repeated)

  10. I Am 3rd Stanza I understand (something you know is true) I say (something you believe in) I dream (something you dream about) I try (something you make an effort about) I hope (something you hope for) I am (the first line repeated)
