  1. Balancing Act By Damon

  2. Aim • To explore and investigate how the centre of gravity works with 2 cans.

  3. Apparatus/materials • You will need: • 2 empty soft drink cans • 100ml of water • A friend that does not know the experiment

  4. method • 1. Pour the 100ml of water into 1 of the soft drink cans and leave the other one empty (make sure your friend does not see). • 2. Now invite your friend over and ask them to try and balance the can on its side and make sure its the empty can, now you need to try and do the same but with the can with 100ml of water in it.

  5. Result • The result of this procedure should be that the can with water in it should be able to tip on its side while the empty can can not.

  6. Conclusion/explanation • The explanation of how the can with water in it can tip is because the centre of gravity is able to move over and bend over unlike the empty can. If you were to put the same amount of water in a can but freeze it the can will not be able to tip over because the centre of gravity hasn’t moved.
