  4. Core Service Biogeophysical Parametres (CSP) Consortium Partners : • Research • U. Bonn • Météo-France • IPF Wien • U. Wien • NOVELTIS • Service Providers : • MEDIAS-France (CSP coordinator) • VITO • IM Portugal • EARS Users • Global Observatories • European Research community : CTCD, CESBIO, PIK, UCL, MPI, LSCE, CNRM, VITO, U. Valencia, UCL, Alterra ... • Users • All geoland observatories & their users • Parallel scientific projects • Policies/Directives • GMES services with common biogeophysical parameter needs (inputs to models) • Product / Service • Biogeophysical parameters, continental / global scale • vegetation : leaf area index, vegetation cover • energy budget : albedo, temperature, downwelling radiation, evapotranspiration • water cycle : rainfall, soil moisture • fires and water bodies January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  5. CSP vegetation variables January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  8. Observatory Land Cover & Forest Change (OLF) Consortium Partners : • Research • JRC (OLF coordination) • IICT (P) • UCL (B) • CEH(UK) • CNR (I) • Service Providers : • VITO (B) • RSS (D) • Associated Users • PUMA network (Africa) • UNEP Geneva • IKI/RSI (Russia) • Other users • DG AIDCO • FAO • Users • International partners of the EU that implement their own environmental monitoring system (see on the right) • decision makers for services with responsibilities in policy orientation project management and environmental reporting in the regions covered by the observatory (see on the right) • Policies/Directives: applicable outside EU • Forest management • UN Forum on Forest (UNFF) • EC Communication COM 1999/554 on “Forest and Development, the EC approach” • Forest Law Enforcement, Governance & Trade • International conventions • Convention to Combat desertification (CCD), • Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) • Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) • Environmental management • Council regulation EC722/97 on “environmental measures in developing countries in the context of sustainable development” • Commission staff working paper SEC(2001) 609 on “integrating the environment into EC economic and development cooperation” January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  9. Product / Service Information on environmental status to be provided at a frequency ranging between one week (actually every 10 day) and 3-12-months. Products will be (1) a set of indicators of vegetation growth and vigour, (2) indices of disturbances leading to land degradation (3) indices of land cover conversion at continental scale. (4) multi-parameter integration to identify impact of ecological processes and human activities. OLF Serves two priority areas identified in the GMES/EC action plan: Africa and Boreal Eurasia – continental scale Observatory Land Cover & Forest Change (OLF) January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  10. OLF – temporal change analysis – intermediate products January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  11. OLF – spectral change analysis – input data OLF – spectral change analysis – intermediate products January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  12. OLF – fire disturbance analysis – input data OLF – fire disturbance analysis – intermediate products January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  13. OLF – surface water analysis – input data OLF – surface water analysis – input data January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland

  14. Data availability • Focus on the 2000-2003 period • Main deliverable are processing chains and products • Data production not yet fully in place, data available for internal users so far (development phase) • Will be available for the broader audience at the end of the project (end 2006) • For interested users and urgent needs: take contact directly with project partners: • GEOLAND CSP marc.leroy@medias.cnes.fr • GEOLAND OLF etienne.bartholome@jrc.it • For general information on the GEOLAND Integrated Project see: http://www.gmes-geoland.info/ January 2004 - ITD0350 geoland
