    1. Specific Learning Disabilities By: Cj Martin Derrick King

    2. Learning Disabilities often go unnoticed and cause much detest in young children’s lives. Children that often have trouble in school and in most cases cant realize why are possible keys to look for in disabled learners. It can be something that is only noticed during testing sessions specially made for learning disabilities. Nearly all learning disabilities can be corrected and worked with to make a learner perform at a level he or she is comfortable.

    3. Exactly What Is A Learning Disability To have a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, which disorder may manifest itself in imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations. Learning Disability Resources Such disorders include such conditions as perceptual disabilities, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia

    4. Possible Causes For Learning Disabilities Complex interaction with biophysical and evironmental factors Genetic Possible problems during a parents birth that have genetic representation Drug use or smoking while pregnant Use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco can cause a child to have a Disability. The childs brain doesn’t develop fully in areas. This area is not always the same thus us having different disabilities. Toxins in the childs environment Complicated pregnancies Sometimes during pregnancy, a females immune system will attack the fetus like and infection Errors in brain developments

    5. Possible Reduce Factors Don’t use any toxins during time of pregnancy. Be aware of past family history and problems with other births, if any

    6. What to look for in identifying Late first words Delayed times of getting to milestones First steps First words Etc.

    7. Do these children look any different? Not necessarily, some children are just in fact hyperactive, which can be confused as lack of attention or too much sugar. With most learning disabilities (the non physical types) children are capable of doing most activities thoughouly only needing some extra instruction or help. When the situation is sever, a child may be noticed by the lack of success in a subject or activity as well as being too “wired”.

    8. Cont. Some children have a extraordinary skill that just is harbored by their disability.

    9. Is there Medication In most cases no. For the ADD, ADHD children there are however drugs that can help comprimise the situation. Ritalin (methylphenidate) Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) Cylert (pemoline) What can a child do to help? Take vitamins Minimize sugar intake Watch childs diet Exercise

    10. Changes to activities To accommodate children with learning disabilities, some rules may have to be re-explained and in more depth. If a child is hyperactive from their disability, some changes could be made to entertain the child and keep them from getting bored or frustrated.

    11. Safety Precautions Children suffering from hyperactivity could cause harm to others just by their nature. These students should be monitored closely. Instruction and rules should be explained very clear to the group and special concern to the child with the disability so that they do not assume any rules or instruction.
