  2. What is a coral reef? Coral reefs are wet environments.They are warm,and they live in salt water, clear, shallow ocean habitats that are rich in life. Coral Reefs have lots of animals that live in them.

  3. What Do Coral Reefs Need To Survive? Coral reefs need three things to survive. They need warm water, sunlight, and clear, shallow waters. Coral will not grow in waters that are lower than 20 degrees Celsius. Sunlight and clear, shallow water is needed. This is why you usually don’t find coral below 100 meters (330 feet)deep.

  5. Who Makes Coral Reefs? Reefs are made by tiny sea creatures called coral polyps. Polyps are tiny soft-bodied animals smaller then a match head.

  6. Great Barrier Reef . The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world, composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for 2,600 kilometres over an area of pretty close to 344,400 square kilometres . The reef is located in the coral sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from out of space. The Great Barrier Reef is made of living organisms.

How is the Coral Reef Threatened? • Crown of thorns star-fish: The spiny and toxic crown-of-thorns starfish are predators that can wipe out large areas of coral; an individual can consume up to 6 square metres of living reef per year. Crown-of-thorns starfish have long spines and are capable of severe stings. • Blast Fishing Shock waves from blast fishing can destroy coral reefs. • Global Warming- Temperature Changes • Pollution • Storms
