  1. Enrollment Balancing Scott K-8 Looking to 2014-15 and beyond

  2. Background • PPS will engage in a district wide enrollment balancing process beginning in the spring of 2014. This process will have an impact on Scott. • What will happen to Scott? • Not known yet. There are a number of possibilities

  3. Possible Impacts to Scott • Scott remains a K-8 but we scale back the immersion program • Scott becomes a K-5 • Scott’s « catchment » area is changed No change would be implemented until the FALL OF 2015

  4. Possible Impacts to Scott • Scott remains a K-8 but we scale back the immersion program • Why? • We are currently experiencing capacity issues. • We will be between 2-4 classrooms short for the 2014-15 school year • Depends on # of Kindergartners, FTE allocation, addressing 3rd & 4th grade class sizes • Not accepting non-neighborhood families to the immersion program will address capacity issues • Yes, that means we potentially lose a section of Kindergarten immersion

  5. Possible Impacts to Scott • Scott becomes a K-5 • This option also addresses our capacity issues but grade reconfigurations are difficult • PPS would have to determine the impact of this change on nearby schools • Impacts more than the Scott community • No particular middle school or building has been identified for our 6th-8th grade students

  6. Possible Impacts to Scott • Scott’s « catchment » area is changed • Most likely to impact the area south of Prescott down to Freemont • Not likely to have a significant impact on Scott as families in this area already tend to “lottery out” of Scott

  7. Is this a « done » deal? • NO! The process for a whole district enrollment balancing has not yet started • PPS will seek community input and that is why the Scott community is organizing now – Scott’s community interest need to be heard!
