  6. Portfolio: SFO to Narita • Flash-based movie focused on teaching how to do something • Movie teaches how to travel from San Francisco airport to downtown Tokyo, Japan • Multiple Flash movies support the overall flow

  7. Portfolio: Rothko Poster • Poster based on the artist Mark Rothko • Took elements from Rothko’s life and made a panel display • Used Rothko’s style throughout the piece

  8. Five Creator Concepts • Framework of Five Creators based on the book Creativity by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. • Csikszentmihalyi’s book postulates that true creativity can only exist when three elements are in place: domain, field, and artist.

  9. Five Creators • I have chosen Five Creators to highlight in my project: 1) Mark Rothko; 2) Frank Lloyd Wright; 3) Georgia O’Keefe; 4) Rembrandt Van Rijn; 5) Walt Disney. • Each of these artists introduced game-changing methods into their respective domains.

  10. Five Creators Story Board • User will walk through a number of different movies explaining the creative paradigm and how the paradigm fits the life of each highlighted artist.

  11. Five Creators Homepage • Homepage will invite user to begin investigating the creativity framework. • Users will be able to jump to any of the given authors if they want to skip the creativity framework. • A character named Inspiro will guide the user through all facets of the site.

  12. Artist Rooms • Users will be able to investigate the virtual studio of each artist. • Different artifacts within each studio will launch different movies that explain different facets of the artist’s life and work. • Doorways will serve as transitions between different artist spaces.

  13. Artist Timelines • Artist timelines act as navigational devices to give the user a way to more broadly view the different pathways through the site. • Timelines will be distinct pages but also accessible from any page via a hover.

  14. Key Influences • Where appropriate I will try to get audio and video clips to support different parts of the site. • A major focus is conveying the artist’s outlook on their art and its place in the world.

  15. Key Goals • To Explore: I want the site to excite users into wanting to learn more. The overall design and interface should encourage deeper exploration of the site. • To Inform: I want the site to be informative. I want the information to not only be pertinent and accurate, but I want it to make the user think about creativity in a new way. • To Encourage: I would like the exploration of each artist’s life to encourage users to learn more about the highlighted artist and find insights in how to improve their own creative process. • To Entertain: I plan on using a lot of illustration in the site, and I want the Flash animations to be very entertaining and visually appealing. • To Transform: I want users of the site to be changed when they leave it. I want them to have a different view both of art and the art and lives of the profiled creators. • To Grow: I want this project to push me and to make me a different and better artist and person by the end. I look forward to the challenge.

  16. Process Flow • The user will be lead through the creative paradigm and then through each of the artist areas. They can choose to move back and forth between artists. • Timelines will be distinct pages but also accessible from any page via a hover.

  17. Site Map

  18. Technical Architecture • The technical architecture will contain the following elements: 1) XHTML; 2) FLASH; 3) XML; 4) PHP; and 5) mySQL. • I plan to use a database to store all the works of the different artists and call them up as needed throughout the application.
