Combustion Institute Changes from 2012 to 2014 • By-Laws • Reviewed by a By-Laws Committee that gave recommendations to the Board • Changes adopted in (newly established) regular electronic Board meeting: • Board of Director’s are elected to serve one six-year term • New election process that enables larger participation of membership • Individual Sections may have a maximum 4 representatives on the Board

New Election Process Nomination Policy Committee • Recommended the changes of voting process to the Board, including: • Electronic voting for registered members, 2 candidates per open position • Suggested Single Transferrable Vote (STV) voting method Nomination Committee Received and handled nominations according to new process Teller Committee • Random Order ballots suggested for electronic ballot

New Ad-Hoc Committees Industry Relations Committee • Discuss strategies how the relations between academic and industry can be strengthened Media and Outreach Committee • Advises CI regarding website design and functions, e.g. to add video recordings and social media • Media advisory to the Symposium • Assists in developing Newsletter and Media guides

New Ad-Hoc Committees ICISS (International CI Summer Schools) Committee • Advised to establish signature CI summer (winter) school program for young scientists, co-funded for 3 years by CI • ICISS guidelines available on CI website • Two deadlines per year (next is January, 2015) • Reviewing proposals for 2015

Combustion Institute Changes from 2012 to 2014 • Symposium • Highest number of paper and poster submissions ever • Added 8th parallel session • Added 5th day poster session • Adjusted time for social events to extend time for presentations • PROCI • Increased capacity for 35th Volume to 3 parts for publication, if needed

  16. New Functions for Young Scientists Young Scientists Mixer • CI supports early get-together for young scientists to enable networking of this group: • 653 young participants (students and postdocs up to 3 yrs after degree) will enjoy “welcome mixer” sponsored by CI

  17. Increased support for Students Student Presenter Support • CI has increased (to total of about 250,000 US$) student support for Symposium: • 208 Oral Presenters received free ($300) registration plus $400 Student Travel Award, 362 WiPP Presenters received free ($300) for registration

CI Office Changes • CI Office • New functions and personnel • Media Outreach position to be added in Fall, 2014 • Tasks will include refreshing the CI Website, designing a Newsletter and other items to support the Media and Outreach Profile of the CI; use of social networking functions will be explored
