  1. - an example of user centric design Designing the MoDiaMan Anders and Jesper Group 839b

  2. Usability lab • An important tool – chance to review functional prototype. • Inspired to pursuit some issues: • Pen -> Requires the use of two hands or a table. • “Send” actions -> Does the user need to be aware during use?

  3. Domain specification User: • 20-40 years old • Patient for 5+ years • Basic computer knowledge (Used to GUIs) • No/Little experience with mobile/handheld devices Needs: • Daily basis information for ceasure prevention • Must measure parameters in order to administer the certain dose and type of insulin. • Parameters to register : • BG, CH, Injection level and type Exercise (Alcohol, drugs, etc.) • Statistics • History and statistics • Notification and warnings

  4. Domain specification Doctor: • Experienced user both with systems and decease • Capable of supervising users Needs: • Consultation information • Statistical data from many different users and parameters • Administrative interface. • Warning!

  5. Method • Context Analysis: • Definitions • UML • Component design -> System concept • Use-cases • -> Users interact with system • Activities • -> Understand user and system tasks

  6. Component design

  7. Use-cases

  8. Activities

  9. Activities • Interface using natural devices: • Smart phone, BG meter, insulin injection pen • Two-”touch” administering routine • BG measurement • Insulin injection • User needs no further interaction with the system than strictly necessary • Smart phone facilitates additional GUI features for exercise and carbon-hydrate reporting • Both smart phone and workstation provides means for external access to statistical information

  10. Lo-fi prototype I

  11. Lo-fi prototype II

  12. Questions/discussion • Any questions?
