  2. ¿Qué es el imperfecto? • It is one of the tenses used for talking about the past. • It is NOT used for all actions in the past, but rather in specific situations.

  3. ¿Cuándo uso el imperfecto? • To speak about background events in a story • To talk about something you used to do as a matter of habit • To talk about what age someone was • To say what time it was

  4. AL WEPT • A – age • L – Location • W – weather • E – emotional/mental state • P – physical/personality description • T – telling time/date

  5. ¡Conjugación! • Conjugating verbs in the imperfect tense is easy! • There are only 3 irregulars! • Verbs DO NOT stem change in the imperfect!!!! Yea!!!

  6. -ar verbs • Drop the –ar ending and add . . . -aba -ábamos -abas -abais -aba -aban

  7. İVamos a practicar! Hablar Yo habl ____ Nosotros habl____ Tú habl____ Vosotros habl ____ El habl____ Ellos habl_____

  8. -er & -ir verbs • Drop the –er or –ir ending and add . . . -ía -íamos -ías -íais -ía -ían

  9. Tener Yo ten____ Nostros ten____ Tú ten_____ Vostros ten____ Ella ten _____ Ellas ten_____

  10. Salir Yo sal____ Nostros sal____ Tú sal_____ Vostros sal____ Usted sal ___ Ustedes sal_____
