TKM Review Questions Chapters 2 ,3, & 4 • When Jem takes Scout to school for her first day, what “order” does he give her? • What does Miss Caroline tell Scout that Atticus is not to say anymore? • At the Finch’s for lunch, what does Walter put on his food? • After Calpurnia makes Scout leave the table, what “lecture” does she give her? • After Scout’s first day of school, how does she feel about it? • Scout begs Atticus not to make her return to school.   4. Formal Paragraph Exemplar #1 Calpurnia is gonna experience racial inequality and discriminatory at some point in the story. And the kids will meet boo eventually. Formal Paragraph Exemplar #2 I can make several predictions so far. Calpurnia may experience racial inequallity and discrimination at some point in the poem. The presentation covered information about racial segregation. Because Calpurnia is the only African American. She will experience racial inequality and discrimination. These are predictions I made.

Formal Paragraph Exemplar #3 There are many predictions to be drawn about the novel To Kill a Mockingbird based upon the events in the first chapter and the introductory presentation given in class. It is possible that Calpurnia may experience racial inequality and discrimination at some point in the story. The presentation over the novel covered a lot information about racial segregation and discrimination that African Americans experienced in the 1930s. Because Calpurnia is the only African American to appear in the novel so far, it can be assumed that she will experience racial inequality and discrimination as the story progresses. A second prediction that can be made following the events in chapter 1 is that the children are going to eventually make contact with Boo Radley. Their desire to see Boo is illustrated when Dill said, “[l]et’s try to make him come out ... I’d like to see what he looks like” (Lee 16). Scout, Jem, and Dill seem so intent upon meeting the recluse that it seems to be foreshadowing of a future meeting between them.Each of these reasonable predictions is supported by either the presentation given to class or the events that unfolded in chapter 1 of To Kill a Mockingbird.

TKM Review Questions Chapter 5 • Explain why Scout becomes annoyed with Dill. • What does Miss Maudie tell Scout about “some kind of men”? • What is Jem and Dill’s plan to contact Boo Radley? • What order does Atticus give the children regarding Boo? • When Jem talks about the Hot Steams, Scout tells him, “Calpurnia says that’s nigger-talk.” When Scout tells Miss Maudie the stories about Boo Radley, Maudie states, “That is three-fourths colored folks ….” What are both Cal and Maudie implying? • Miss Maudie tells Scout that “Mr. Radley (Boo’s dad) was a foot-washing Baptist” and goes on to say that some men worry so much “about the next world” they never learned “to live in this one.” What is Maudie suggesting about Mr. Radley and his treatment of Boo? Is Mr. Radley a good man? Is he a good father? • Dill says he thinks Boo might feel better if he’d come out and “set a spell” with the children. Do you agree with Dill? Would you enjoy spending time with these children?
