  4. The Fog Index • Count 100 words in body of text. • Count the number of sentences in the 100 words. Add to the count the number of colons and semicolons. • Count the number of 3 or more syllable words in 100 words (nouns excluded). • Add numbers 2 and 3. • Multiply by 0.4 • Judge

  5. The Fog Index • Basis for Comparison • The Bible = 5 to 6 • Typical Newspaper = 6 to 7 • Time & Newsweek = 8 • Atlantic Monthly = 13+ Try not to exceed 9. Can be read by most 15 year olds!

Peer-Editing • Do Fog Index on own paper. • Exchange with someone from your section. • Edit using worksheet. • Develop a question. • Return to original author. • Original author – highlight sentences according to structure. • Turn in peer edit with final draft by Friday to boxes outside of PE 212C.
