Genetic Disorder • Bloom's Syndrome is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, which means two copies of the gene must be altered for a person to be affected by the disorder.(1) The mean age of death is 27 years of age and is usually related to cancer.(2) There is no specific treatment but of exposure to the sun and the usage of sunscreens can help prevent some of the cutaneous changes associated with the syndrome.(3) People with Bloom syndrome have chromosomes which often break and re-arrange.(4) Men with Bloom syndrome are usually infertile. Some women with the disease have given birth to healthy children. Women often experience early menopause.(5)
