  1. Heavy Backpacks By: Brianna Mitchell

  2. Big Question • Are kids in school carrying too much weight in their backpacks? • I thought this because kids are always carrying too much inside their backpacks.

  3. Hypothesis • Students in school are carrying too many books in their backpacks. • I thought this because they carry them around to every class and they carry lots of books.

  5. Interesting Facts

  6. Experiment • Materials: • Weight scale • Notebook • Calculator

  7. Step by step • Step 1: • Put your scale on a hard surface. Make a list of people and record the person weight. • Step 2: • Record the weight of each backpack. • Step 3: • Calculate 10% percent of each persons body weight. Compare this number to the actual weight of the backpack. If their body weight percentage is larger than the weight of the backpack, it is too heavy.

  8. variabes • I used the same scale to measure each person all though each person had a different backpack the styles were similar.

  9. Observations • Most students carry all their books for the entire day. • The students do not have enough time to go to their lockers in between classes to exchange and put away books. • Students are not able to carry just the books needed therefore they have to carry more books.
