  2. Facility • Completely designed and renovated space; • 2,000 sq. ft. multipurpose room – library, reading area, audio-visual corner, computer cluster; • 4 fully equipped offices; • A enclosed terrace area of 2,500 sq. ft. designed for various functions – indoor and outdoor.

  3. Center Structure • Board of Directors headed by the President Zheng Nanning of XJTU and Chancellor Harvey Perlman of UNL; • Executive Director : Vice President Song Xiaoping of XJTU; • Deputy Directors : He Changzhong, Deputy Director of International Program and Exchanges of XJTU; Chen Xijing, Vice Dean, School of Foreign Languages of XJTU; • Deputy Director: Professor David Lou, Special Assistant to the Chancellor for China Affairs of UNL; • Assistant to the Deputy Director: Mariah Schuemann of from UNL; • One office staff from XJTU.

  4. Planned Activities • Culture: books, magazines, videos, movies, electronic means to link AEC to UNL and beyond, lectures by UNL faculty, performances of American music by bands from USA, American classic movie festival, American culture week each year; • Education: offer credited English classes through XJTU’s Foreign Languages School, non-credited English classes taught by instructors from UNL year-around, English corner by UNL English instructors twice a week;

  5. Academic exchanges: short term summer workshops for XJTU faculty; • Recruit American students to study in XJTU; • Summer study aboard programs for NU students; • Provide logistic support to XJTU faculty to visit UNL and other American academic institutions; • Recruit XJTU students to study in UNL; • Recruit UNL students to study in XJTU.

  6. Needs • More financial resources to support activities planned; • Secured long term commitments from government, universities and foundations; • Need funding to hire additional center staff to carry out planned center activities and achieve center goals.
