  8. 1. Connie Talbot • She comes from a poor family. • She likes singing a lot. • Her grandmother got cancer when Connie was two and she practised hard to sing a song to her grandmother.

  13. At the Injury • Sang Lan fell and seriously injured her spine in a competition. • But she doesn’t feel sorry for herself. ‘I won’t give up,’ she says.

After the Injury • After the accident, she stayed in a hospital in New York for a year. • Sang studies journalism at Peking University and exercises daily to regain the use of her arms. • She also hosts her own TV show, Sang Lan Olympics 2008, on Star TV.
