Blood • Is made up of four components: • Plasma • Red blood cells • White blood cells • Platelets.

Red Blood Cells • A cell in the blood that takes up • oxygen in the lungs and delivers it to • cells elsewhere in the body. • Your blood contains more red blood cells than any other kind of cell. • Made of hemoglobin • Protein that helps pick up oxygen
White Blood Cells • The body’s disease fighters. • Some alert the body of invasion • Some produce chemicals to fight the invaders • Some surround and kill the organisms.
Platelets • Tiny oval-shaped cells that helps blood clot.
Plasma • Most of the material transported in the blood travels in plasma. • ---it carries nutrients, proteins, waste. • Water makes up 90% of plasma.

Blood Types • 4 types • A, B, AB, O • They are determined by proteins known as marker molecules that are on the red blood cells.
