  11. Calibrating the Benchmarks • Grading Policy Clarification • The benchmarks are not to be graded. • No such thing as a passing score. • Interpreting the Benchmark Tests • Best way is by SE • 55-70-85 Rule of Thumb

  12. Grading Policy • From the Desk of Denise Collier: • We have been getting calls about the use of benchmark tests as one of the graded tests that can be counted in a six weeks. As you know, benchmark tests have never been graded tests and this practice will continue this school year. We have corrected the regulation to reflect the following language: • District benchmarks are not graded but may be counted as ungraded tests in order to meet the number of required tests in a six weeks. • Hopefully, this correction will clarify any confusion that was in the regulation sent to schools last week. Please inform your principals of the revisions. They can print a copy of the revised regulation from the DISD web page. As the school year progresses, we will be getting feedback from principals, teachers, and the EIA committee members regarding the implementation for the regulation guidelines. At the end of the semester, we will review all comments and make adjustments (if needed) to the regulation prior to the second semester. • Thank you and your principals for your support in this process.

  15. Calibrating the Benchmarks 55-70-85 Rule of Thumb. 55 on Benchmark usually means good chance of passing TAKS 70 on Benchmark usually means good chance of being college ready on TAKS 85 on Benchmark usually means good chance of being commended on TAKS

  16. Calibrating the TAKS • Pre-AP and AP courses are more difficult to interpret. Students are generally selected by ability. Most kids pass the TAKS no matter benchmark scores, however, the commended is often still well predicted.
