  2. Placement Options • Determine how you intend to use the program • Core Reading Program • Teach Entire group at one time • Supplemental Program • Students grouped by ability • Teach group based on middle scores • Individualize

  3. Placement Options • Small groups • All students at same level • Several reading groups in room at one time • Students not in group do independent work • One on one • Individualized program

  4. Preparation • Sort books by color • Make them easily accessible – students get their own book • Make copies of necessary paperwork • Put paperwork in file folders

  5. Preparation • Make classroom set of flash cards • Idea 1 • Copy & laminate flash cards • Cut out • Punch hole in corner and put on ring • Idea 2 • Copy flash card word list • Bind into book • Have one book per set

  6. Implementing Instruction • “Little Books” series is direct instruction program • Teacher models – I do it • Guided practice – We do it • Independent practice – You do it • Some signals built in • Praise suggested throughout lesson • Some error correction built in (mastery level of books)

  9. Data Collection & Tracking Progress • Looking Back • Learner must pass with set criteria (bottom of the page) • If criteria not met, review previous books and reassess • Teach to mastery! • Section 5 – Data collection • Section 6 – Review Lessons
