  1.  DAY 10 Use of traditional materials

  2. Systems of equations This was our topic… …but how do you deepen thinking around any material?

  3. Yesterday all my troubles felt so far away You developed a list of no more than 5 big ideas crucial to the mastery of the topic of system of equations from the perspective of an Algebra I course or equivalent You began to brainstorm what you might be looking for from students as evidence of learning i.e.what would you want kids to do, say and/or write to convince you of their understanding.

  4. That was then, this is now You are going to work with your tablemates to develop questions to use in probing understanding and pushing their thinking in moving them towards mastery of your identified learning goals.

  5. but there is a twist

  6. Now with more stuff! You MUST use my great new book! And less filling! You are to do this within the constraint of using our specified text. You do not have the option of disregarding the text, using it only as a resource, or as a repository of homework problems. It must form the basis of your classroom instruction.

  7. So read your new teacher's edition! • Refrain from the impulse to critique the text That is not today's task. Don’t do it. Srsly. • Work with your tablemates in writing your questions. • What are you going to ask that is NOT already being posed by the book? • Also consider... • when are you going to ask it? • to whom? • and why?
