  2. Oxfordshire: A Tale of Two Counties • A 10 minute drive: a 10 years’ life expectancy gap • 13% claim for Pens Credit, 31% in Northfield Brook • 29% of those with LLTI no car, 58% in Jericho/Osney

  3. Who are we talking about ? • Our key populations: • c120,000 people of state pension age • 60,000 carers of all ages • And for example, especially… • 31,136 older people living alone • 14,000 on the poverty line • 8,200 people with dementia, 38% diagnosed

  4. What they say…. • Help us get access…to health care & generally • Don’t say “What do you expect at your age” • Help us find a purpose in life • Getting by on very little • Going out every day keeps me sane and healthy • Getting information is very hit and miss • Caring is what I do…but it is wearing

  5. Loneliness is bad for your health • Robust evidence detailing…. • Increased blood pressure • Link with depression • Mortality risk doubled • Link to Alzheimers Disease • Well-documented social and personal effects

Our offer of services • Locality development offer • A  range of activities and opportunities as close to home as possible aimed at enabling all older people to maintain health, wellbeing and independence: • Community Clubs   • Footcare   • social activities •  IT classes   • singing, and • exercise classes – with the launch of Generation Games in June

  7. Our offer of services • Specialist services • A range of services to support older people as they start to need that little bit more help: • Flexible Care • Memory Service • My Life My Way • Oxfordshire Befriending Network • Phone Link and Befriending Services

  8. Voice and Choice • Information and Advice services • A range of services to enable people to exercise choice, including: • Brokerage • Carers Support Service • Continuing Healthcare • Dementia Information Line • Helpline • Housing Choices • Welfare Benefits Service

  9. Voice services • A range of opportunities for older people to influence policy and practice that affects their lives: • Forums and Panels • Oxfordshire Carers’Forum • Campaigning
