YazanHalawa Research Responsibility: Converting RapidSmithSubsite Information to EDIF RapidSmith is a software infrastructure for creating and modifying hardware designs targeting Xilinx FPGAs.  Currently, the FPGA building blocks, called Basic Elements of Logic (BELs), and their connectivity is embedded as string attributes in a higher level of hierarchy called a site.  This project will focus on interpreting the string representations of the BELs and expressing them in EDIF. • Broader Impact Assignment: • Chip Camp Faculty Advisor: Prof. Nelson Mentor: Travis Haroldsen Goals for First 2 Weeks: Task 1 - Familiarization with the Xilinx Vivado FPGA CAD suite :   a) Create a simple design in Xilinx Vivado  b) Export an EDIF representation of the circuit from Vivado  c) Import the exported EDIF representation back into Vivado Task 2 - Familiarization with Xilinx ISE CAD suite and RapidSmith:  a) Recreate the design from task 1 in Xilinx ISE  b) Import the design into RapidSmith c) Export the design from RapidSmith and reload it into Xilinx ISE

  29. Thomas Townsend Research Responsibility: A GUI-based Sub-site Routing Extraction Tool for Vivado B1-Vivado group is on the cutting edge of CAD tool creation for Xilinx FPGAs. This project will focus on extracting vital device information from Xilinx's new design suite (Vivado), to create a framework for the creation of custom CAD tools that target 7 Series FPGAs and beyond. Specifically, this project involves the creation of a GUI-based tool in Java that will allow researchers to easily generate a site's physical routing information, which will then be imported into BYU's exsitingRapidSmith CAD tool framework. • Broader Impact Assignment: • Outreach Faculty Advisor: Prof. Nelson Mentor: Travis Haroldsen Goals for First 2 Weeks: Set up your workstation, Generate a bitstream for a design using ISE, Generate a bitstream for a design using Vivado, Generate an XDLRC file from ISE, Generate an XDLRC file from Vivado (Tincr), Create a valid design using RapidSmith, Write a script for Vivado that reports the resource usage of a placed and routed design
