Aims of GALILEO • To provide satellite navigation users and equipment providers with a broader range of services; • To promote open markets and to facilitate growth in trade of global navigation goods and services; • To provide a system which is fully compatible with the existing US GPS system; • To reinforce the global satellite navigation infrastructure by providing an additional state-of-the-art system ensuring a more robust, precise and continuous service to civilian users worldwide; • To prevent misuse of satellite navigation systems; • To provide a viable alternative to existing satellite navigation systems

GALILEO Road Map • Contract Signed for CDE1 with GAIN (Dec 2004) • ITTs for lower level schedule critical items released Q4 2004 – e.g. GRC, IPF,… • The GALILEO Development & Validation Phase (CDE1) is planned to be Kicked Off in Q1 2005 – for a planned duration of 42 months including 6 months of In Orbit Validation (phase E1) • The CDE1 phase will be followed by the full deployment phase (E2) for a planned duration of 24 months
