  19. Warm-up 8/12 Write in your planner! On your scratch paper, write down everything you remember from the presentation from yesterday! *BE READY TO SHARE OUT*

What do you Remember? • What does PSI mean? • What is my classroom motto? • What is one of the Math Practice Standards? • What is the difference between collaboration time, teacher time, and solo time? • What do you do if you need to use the restroom? • How will I get your attention? • What kind of voices do we use in here? • What do you need to bring to me when you go to the restroom/water? • What items need to come to class EVERYDAY? • What does “persevere” in mathematics mean?

How will you be graded? • Tests 35% • Tests at the end of each unit • Quizzes 20% • At the end of each investigation • Projects 10% • At the end of each investigation • Homework 10% • Homework due on time • ZAP! • Participation 25% • Collaboration • Portfolio Checks • Working during class time • NO EXTRA CREDIT WILL BE OFFERED AT THE END OF TRIMESTER!

  22. Assessments (65%) • HUGE part of your grade. • Get help when needed BEFORE the assessments. • No re-takes on any assessment, so come prepared! • STUDY and PRACTICE before a test/quiz.

  23. Home Learning (10%) • Home Learning is assigned most nights. • What is the point of HL? • PRACTICE for assessments. • I check home learning for effort and completion. It is up to you to check your work and get help when needed. • Home Learning Check System: • Line by wall = have the HL. Have HL out! • Line by the grass = no HL. Have planner out! ZAP! • Grade HL when you come in and record in portfolio.

  24. ZAP Procedures • A circle in your planner means you need to report to ZAP the next week. • I will unzap on MONDAYS after school and WEDNESDAYS before school. • CHECK YOUR PLANNER to see if you are zapped. No excuses!

Home Learning Reflections • After writing in the planner, you need to grade your home learning. • Star correct problems and put a X on incorrect problems. • REMEMBER – if you are MISSING many problems, it is time for EXTRA HELP. • DONE EARLY? You will be working on unit mathematical reflections.

Classroom Participation • ACTIVE PARTICIPATION • Listening – SLANT • S = Sit up straight • L = Lean forward • A = Act interested and you will become interested • N = Nod your head, so I know you’re listening • T = Track your teacher with your eyes • Asking Questions • Answering Questions • On Task • Actively Involved

  29. What happens if you are absent? • You are still responsible to make up the class investigations and any missing assignments. • CHECK THE ABSENT WALL TO SEE WHAT YOU MISSED! • Absences = missing out on class collaboration. Please be here.

  33. Rewards/Consequences • CONSEQUENCES – one for EVERY action. • Consequences for negative actions: • Warning • Detention • Parent Phone Call • Referral/Time-out Determined by Behavior

  34. Citations • Tardies • Dress Code • Cell Phones • Gum • Food • This is a learning environment, so I expect professional language. Profanity will result in a language essay. Second offense = detentions.

  35. Rewards/Consequences • REWARDS • Tickets are handed out for: being prepared, winning class competitions, behavior, answering, staying on task. • Tickets are handed out AT RANDOM. If you say, “I did not get a ticket,” then you will not get a ticket. • Tickets can be entered in a drawing, which will happen every 2 weeks. If your ticket is drawn, you get to choose a reward coupon. If your ticket is not drawn, it will be thrown out after the raffle. • You can add up to 4 tickets on to quizzes for one point of extra credit.

Classroom Groups • 1 – SUPPLIER • Takes care of the supply box. • Check it. • Organize it. • Clean it up. • 2 – RECORDER/TIMER • Records for the group. • Watches the time for group. • 3 – FACILITATOR • Goes to the front when supplies are needed. • Gets group started. • Keeps group focused. • 4 - COMMUNICATOR • Asks questions for the group. • Presents for the group.
