  1. Bell Work Take 4 minutes to make a list of all the things you need in order to create a good news story. Please share these with your neighbor and see the similarities and differences.

  2. News Writing Do's and Don'ts

Basic Rules • "Jacob said" not "Said Jacob" • It is very important to establish a style and be consistent • Always refer to your AP Style book when in doubt • Use more than 1 source and use more than 1 side of the story • Find an angle that keeps the reader interested.  It is about them, not you.

  4. "." and "?" will always get the job done Never include your opinion unless it is an opinion article Do not include personal statements or lead the audience to think like you. You are telling a story, you are not entertaining the reader The reader wants the facts, shape the story but do not effect the story. Remain Neutral Get rid of the explanation points!!!

  5. AP Style AP style is a very structured way of writing.  It creates consistency in a news room and in a news community.  Please get out your AP Style Books and prepare for....

  6. Group Work     In groups of 4 - 5 please critique the writing sample in front of you for errors using AP Grammar Marks.  Please re-write the story, with correct AP style and be prepared to defend yourself after.
