Explain the impact of European colonization on Indigenous people in Australia. Mohammed Alaker 8E humanities
Europeans and Indigenous Australians • The Europeans where being unfair. If they wanted to change the Indigenous Australians, they should’ve made it optional so that it could be a choice. The real reason the Europeans wanted to convert the half-cast into civilized white people was so that there would be more white people and so that there wouldn’t be more half-cast people. Eventually, human rights rules came out and stopped this misery.
How does the humanities concept relate to the impact of European colonization on Indigenous people in Australia.? • The humanities concept for this unit is Global Interactions: Societies, Cultures, and the Global World are all connected. Global interactions Is how countries affect one another. Global interactions also helps people understand the different traditions, this way there would be less misinterpretation and more respect between the different cultures. The European colonization on the indigenous people in Australia relates to the concept because both the Europeans and the Australians shared very few traditions. The Europeans wanted to change the aborigines into “civilized people” and training them to act like a “civilized” European. The Europeans said that this change was for their best, but it was obviously not.
How did the European colonization affect the aborigines ? • The British got to use aborigine how ever they wanted. It was not considered aboriginal land • The British brought along diseases which the aborigines had no immunity to. • Breaking apart of families as the Europeans sought to take native children and educate them in white schools. • Some of the aboriginal people where forced to changed the place they lived in. • Introduction to alcohol. This ruined the aboriginal heritage.
The invasion • Before 1931 The aboriginal Life before Europeans invaded was basically all about depending on natural resources. We know this because in the beginning of the movie, we watch a scene on how Gracie, Daisy, and Molly where hunting for lunch. • During the invasion 1931 – 1970 The aborigines lived in fear while the Europeans where trying to take the children away. We know this because in the movie, when the mother of Daisy and Molly saw the car arriving, they knew that they where to be taken away so they started to run for freedom. • After 1970 After the Europeans took most of the aboriginal children, the population decreased and currently there are 250 aboriginal people. I know this from the CIA world fact book
