  3. Chapter 21 • 276: Cal shows up to court with note from Aunt A. saying kids are missing; Atticus finds out they are watching from “colored” balcony

Chapter 21 cont. • Jem is confident Atticus/Tom won the trial (279) “Jem smiled…on what we heard—” • Jem gives his ideas on the law regarding rape (279) “But Jem took exception to Reverend Sykes…go through all this.” • Scout is also trying to be optimistic (280-281) Bottom of page 280 “I remembered something Jem had once explained…it wouldn’t work.”

  5. Chapter 21 cont. • Courtroom imagery (281) “But I must have been reasonably awake…from a winter morning.” • More beautiful imagery and the verdict (282) “What happened after that had a dreamlike quality…a separate stab between them.”
