CCME 2011 – IT Perspectives Gregory Power June 8, 2011
IT Perspectives • Mobility • Very limited desire and direction to provide mobility technology to students • Key: Standardization and complete integration for all curriculum materials with the device • Where possible, design for mobility • E-Learning vs E-Teaching • Most of what occurs today is e-teaching (using technology to help learners) vs. using new and emerging technologies to change the way learning occurs
IT Perspectives • Student Technology Use • Most important: ability to access lecture notes, materials, videos (of lectures or supporting videos) from anywhere at anytime • Disagreement among students on use of social media tools • Strong desire to have a one stop shop for their information needs – calendaring, access to information, searching, etc.
IT Perspectives • IT in university and clinical settings • Interoperability #1 complaint of individuals working across these settings • Key constraint – the information policies at the different organizations are rooted in different mandate • Relationships among the IT organizations in both settings is crucial – needs to be productive and respectful that both organizations are serving the same stakeholders
