Graphing 3. Label the “Y” axis as the dependent variable (whatever you WATCHED to see if there was a change).
Graphing • 4. Add (UNITS) to the axes labels. • 5. Add a title: Y vs. X
Graphing • Determine the SCALE for an axis:
Graphing • a. Find the range for an axis. (i.e. Top value - Zero OR Top value – Lowest value )
Graphing • b. Count the boxes on that axis. • c. Divide the range by the number of boxes.
Graphing • d. Round UP the quotient to the next “appropriate” value. (i.e. 1, 2, 2.5, 5, or any power of ten times any of the above values.)
Graphing • d. For example: • 0.9 would become… 1
Graphing • d. For example: • 1.3 would become… 2
Graphing • d. For example: • 2.1 would become… 2.5
Graphing • d. For example: • 3.0 would become… 5
Graphing • d. For example: • 6.1 would become… 10

Graphing • 7. Number the axis using increments of the value you found in step 6. (NOT raw data!!!) • **NO FLOATERS!!!**
Graphing • 8. Repeat steps 6 & 7 for the other axis. • 9. Plot the data CAREFULLY!
Graphing 10. Circle the data points. 11. Draw a best-fit line/curve. (Do NOT connect the dots!)
Graphing • Select and BOX two points that are NOT data points, but are on the BF line (or a tangent).
Graphing 13. Draw vertical and horizontal lines to form a right triangle with the boxed points at the upper and leftmost points.
Graphing 14. On the triangle, show the Dy and the Dx. 15. On the graph, write the formula m = Dy/ Dx.
Graphing 16. Fill in the formula with numbers and units. 17. Solve for the final answer with proper units.
