  15. Market statistics. Import & Export The machine-building and metalworking industry within the industrial structure of Russia is over 18%. These fields comprise the largest sector in general manufacturing in Russia contrary to common opinion about absolute dominance of fuel industry (consisting of oil and gas industries). The fuel ranks second with 17% of total manufacturing. • The fact is that the 2004 general index of industrial production in Russia was about 106% but 112% in machine-building and metalworking. Although Russian machine building industry has various (in kind of product, production volume, financial conditions, competitive strength) companies, the positive dynamics was kept in all segments of machine-building industry. • Satisfying the needs of the manufacturing industry are imports totaling over 75% of total sales in 2005 with the balance supplied by the revived Russian machine tool builder manufacturers. According to Stankoinstrument Association, Russia’s trade association for the machine tool industry, imports totaled 8862 units in 2005 with a dollar value of almost $300 million. • Manufacturing probably shrank at the slowest pace in 2009 but the recession eased and factories moved closer to stabilization. www.mashex.ru
