Meaning of Hospitality and Hotels: • Hospitality is the natural relationship between host and guest. • Hospitality is noble and is a selfless giving. • Hospitality is the relationship between individuals where the “stranger” is being welcomed into an environment other than his original home. • People tend to spend vacations in a hotel to experience novelty, away from the daily routine in their life. • Boutique hotels are typically hotels with a personalized intimate kind of service. Location: • Brazil, Rio De Janeiro • The geographic characteristics: • Brazil is the 5th largest country in the world with a square footage of 3,287,597 sqmi • Rio de Janeiro is considered the second largest city in Brazil after Sao Paulo with an area of 486.5 sqmi • Brazilian topography is diverse and includes hills, mountains, and highlands. • Brazil is famous with its biodiversity and the vast amount of natural resources. The famous Amazon rainforests has the greatest biological diversity in the world. • Brazil has natural variety of renewable materials and energy sources. Challenges of designing sustainable hotels: • Guests used to think that green lodging experience could make them feel uncomfortable or force them to pay a premium. • Interior designers always struggle specifying green materials, appliances, or furniture especially when the clients’ goal is to cut corners while he is not aware of the quality of this product. • Finding the right suppliers, dealing with contractors with little knowledge about sustainability could be a challenge. • Guests’ awareness of the latest trends acts as a crucial aspect to judge a successful hospitality management.
