  2. What did you learn? • 1. What is a Mosaic? • A Mosaic is a picture that is made up of tiny pieces colored glass and stones. • And where were mosaics found in the Byzantine empire? • Mosaics were found in churches and Monasteries through out the Empire.

  3. What did you learn? • 2. How did silk weaving develop in the Byzantine Empire? • Byzantine traders were able to smuggle in silk worms from China and start their own silk industry.

  5. Describe • 4. What were some of the trade items that were exchanged between merchants in Constantinople? • From Asia – Spices, gem, metals, & Cloth • From Byzantine – Farm goods, furs, honey, and slaves.

  6. Explain • 5. Why were divorces difficult to get in the Byzantine Empire? • The Religion of the Empire and the government stressed the importance of marriage and divorce was frowned upon.

  7. Analyze • 6. What important services did Byzantine writers provide to the rest of the world? • The Byzantine writers copied and preserved the writings of the Greeks and the Romans; otherwise these works would have been lost.
