  1. Friday 14th March 2014 Reception Express • Here are some of the things that we have been learning about so far • this half term... • We have read the story of the Gingerbread Man and enjoyed making our own gingerbread. We also changed the traditional tale into the story of the Pancake Man. We tasted pancakes and learned how to make pancakes by writing our own instructions. • We have found out about the new season, Spring and looked for signs of Spring outside. We have a new garden centre outside where we have enjoyed digging and planting seeds. • Next week we will be continuing to learn about Jack and the Beanstalk. We have enjoyed reading the story and describing the characters. In our garden centre we planted our very own beanstalk seed and are hoping to see it grow before Easter! • In the final weeks before we break up for the Easter holidays we are going to be finding out about eggs and what types of creraturescome from eggs. We will also be learning about the Easter story and why many people celebrate at Easter time. • Yorkshire Air Ambulance • Over the next couple of weeks we will be raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in time for their visit to school on Monday 24th March. In our Reception classes we have decided to hold a bake sale on the morning of Wednesday 19th March. The Reception staff will be baking cakes, buns, biscuits and tarts at home to bring in for the bake sale and we would really appreciate it if you and your child could also contribute to our fantastic cause by baking together at home and donating the results! The rest of the school will be coming to buy our treats during the morning and we are hoping to raise lots of money for the Air Ambulance. If you would like to bake something for our sale, please bring it along with you on Wednesday morning (please could you make sure containers are named so we can return them). • Learning at home • In our phonics lessons we have been practising using the sounds we know to write simple sentences. We have been thinking about using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops in every sentence. Some of us have been recapping Phase 3 sounds and thinking lots about blending sounds together to write words and segmenting sounds to read words. We are so impressed with everyone’s efforts in phonics at the moment and are proud of how well our Reception children are doing with their reading and writing. • Thank you to those people who attended our recent parent consultations. These meetings are extremely important and help you to understand what your child is doing in school, as well as suggesting what you can be doing to help further their development. If you haven’t managed to meet with your child's class teacher please pop in to make an appointment. • Thank you. • .
