General Services Department Mission Statement We will provide courteous and quality services to our customers in a manner that allows for safe and efficient use of vehicles, equipment and facilities to minimize life-cycle costs of ownership.
Annual Operating Budget: $7 million Capital Budget: $2 million (Fleet replacement) Vertical Capital Projects: $40 million (approx.)
Fleet Management DivisionMaintains repairs and participates in the procurement and disposal of all General Government and GRU vehicles and equipment. The diversified fleet approximately 1,470 units is domiciled at two locations in the City. In addition, Fleet Management provides 24/7 access to fuel and roadside assistance to its customers. Primary responsibilities: Assist in the vehicle procurement process Maintain, repair and dispose of all General Government and GRU vehicles and equipment Track warranty and recall items Monitor quality control Provides fuel for vehicles and equipment.
Two locations staffed by 2 managers and 16 technicians. Hours of Operation Fleet Management Garage: Mon – Fri 7:00am – 7:00pm Springhill Garage: Mon – Thurs 7:00am – 5:30pm or Tues – Fri (rotates quarterly) 7:00am – 5:30pm Provides 24/7/365 emergency coverage. Service a diversified fleet of approximately 1,470 vehicles & equipment. • Examples: pursuit vehicles, sedans, pickup trucks, bucket trucks, fire apparatus, and heavy construction equipment
Facilities Management DivisionProviding building maintenance, minor construction and repair services including air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and carpentry; energy management; and custodial services for 100 City owned facilities. Mechanical Section Provides a variety of professional services performed by licensed journeyman including: HVAC Lighting Plumbing Generators Energy Management Manage contracts
Structural Section Services provided by 3 carpenters and 1 painterservices include: Minor remodeling Painting Carpentry Keying of buildings City Hall Security Manage Contracts
Custodial Section Services provided by 9 Custodians services include: Housekeeping Carpet & floor care
Vertical Capital ProjectsFacilitates coordination of all General Government’s (Vertical) Capital Projects to ensure operating department’s needs are met at minimal cost. Most recent projects completed include: COG & GRU Fleet Facility & PW Materials Management Facility Fire Station 8 City/County Senior Recreation Center Design and Construction of PW Administration Building Current ongoing projects: Design and Construction/renovation of former Gainesville Correctional Institute, now the “Gainesville Empowerment Center”. The primary use for this facility will be for Homeless services. GPD’s Operations building Fire Station #1
Support Services Division Provides administrative support services for divisions including materials management, record keeping, reports generation, accounting, budget and project support. In addition, provides procurement support services including parts and supplies and bids for contract of goods and services.
