  2. Overview – Notes from 10-3-12 • What is PAX? Latin for peace, productivity, happiness and heath, initially takes a little time to set it up but it will definitely save you time • Suitcase for life – what do you want your students to have to leave here? Academic skills, Social skills • PAX Kernels-part of the PAX • PAX sticks – gives every student the same opportunity • Wonderful Classroom – (Classroom Vision or School Wide Vision) what do you want more of and what do you want less of - SEE, HEAR, FEEL, DO, these are student responses, can go back and revisit, teacher can add as see fit • Harmonica – to get attention of students – stop what they are doing, eyes on teacher, mouth closed, peace sign with fingers • Timer – decrease transition time, play beat the timer, if win get to do something special, teaching students their internal stop and go, timer determines the length of the game (usually 30 seconds – a minute or 2 at the most) • PAX Language – a common language for all, develops kindness, PAX hands, PAX feet, zero voices, 3 inch voice, PAX Leader (someone who is kind and using good school behavior), tootles, spleem– anything that is not being PAX – doesn’t have a negative connotation – mouth makes a smiling face instead of No which makes a frowning face; spleems can be specific to a particular activity (test taking) • Recipe: Three games a day – plus one secret game (active), we have to figure out how to do this in MS/HS • Tootle Notes – kind words to students and staff, posted and sent home (2) • Game – no more than 3 spleems per team, individual, however you divide your students, students who want to sabatoge become their own team, Recipe for the game is 3 or less spleems can play the game, 3 games a day, 1 secret game every day, use beat the timer, PAX timer surprise by using the sticks – don’t point out who was drawn • Implementation-Panther PAX monthly awards, PAX Bus Champions, Tootle Time Quarterly, Tootle Time Radio, PAX t-shirts, The first day of PAX – how would you get started – use the harmonica and timer – use 10 Easy Steps to Start Up the PAX Good Behavior Game handout • Data Collection • Outcomes • Observations – PAX leaders will be doing observations in classrooms to gather data.

Are you ready to start PAX this year? I don’t know…I don’t have time….I think I’ll wait awhile to get started I don’t know—I have so much to do—how do I fit it in?
