  1. Be Well, Lead Well: Girls Bringing Health, Wellness, Leadership and Power Together at Hathaway Brown School Bill Christ,Head of School Sue Sadler, Associate Head of School and Head of Upper School Koyen Parikh Shah, Director Center for Leadership and Well-Being

  2. Guided by Our Mission Dedicated to excellence in the education of girls Non scholae sed vitae discimus: We learn not for school but for life Inspiring students to achieve their utmost potential and rise boldly to the challenges of their times Our primary calling: transforming the lives of girls

  3. We must design new ways to educate our students because we live in deeply complicated times and it is irresponsible to pretend that the old ways will prepare students for the new world.

  4. CENTER FOR SCIENCE RESEARCH & ENGINEERING • 500students since 1998 • 142 Siemens or Intel Finalists/Semifinalists • Over 270 publications • 5 experiments in space • 58% STEM majors vs. 16% girls nationally • 40% complete bachelor’s or beyond vs. 8% of girls nationally

  5. CENTER FOR GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP • Places a global perspective at the heart of the school • 325students in the program • Elective diploma program in international studies with a Senior Thesis and its defense • More than 95%of the Class of 2014 will have traveled abroad on an HB trip by the time they graduate. • 90% of the Class of 2014 on track to complete Senior Thesis

  6. THE ASPIRE PROGRAM • 420 girls from under-resourced Greater Cleveland middle schools since 2002 • 84% of the 2005-08 Aspire cohorts are attending college • 57% of the Aspire Class of 2004 completed a 2 or 4 year degree • 87% of Aspire college apprentice teachers choose a career in education

  7. “It’s hard to imagine a way in which my HB education did not prepare me. When I got to Princeton, many of my peers had gone to very impressive schools all over the country and world and had gotten extremely good educations there. What made me different was my ability to see a particular reality/social fact, question it, imagine otherwise or how to improve it, find out what resources are around me (human or material) to help me change/improve it, and then the confidence to go ahead and try to do so. That was a priceless gift that certainly prepared me for life.” -- Amy Saltzman ‘01
