Why in the classroom?Some points for discussion….do you agree with the following? • Language is a medium of learning. It is best learnt within the context of other school subjects. • Students learn most effectively from their peers. • Focussed small group talk develops language competence and confidence. • Learners acquire a second language not by learning it but by using it to learn other things. • A second language is best learnt in natural situations rather than withdrawral groups. • There is a bonus for all students in providing increased awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity.
