MLK Jr. • Civil Right leader • Clergyman • He led the Montgomery Bus Boycott that lasted more than one year. • He organized the March on Washington. • He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for fighting racial inequality through nonviolence. • One of the greatest orators (speakers) in American history.

  7. MLK Jr. • His speech led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. • He was assassinated April 4, 1968 in Memphis by James Earl Ray.

  8. ‘I Have a Dream’ • Listen to “I Have a Dream” • Write down three things you notice from the speech. • Also tell me why he was/was not a good speaker.

  9. Laying the groundwork Did MLK lay the groundwork form Obama? If so, how?

MLK • Write a 3-paragraph essay in which you tell me how MLK laid the groundwork for Barack Obama and other minorities who serve in the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches. • The first paragraph should be the introduction. • The second paragraph is the body. • The third paragraph is the conclusion. • A paragraph is 4-6 sentences.
