  1. T Spine Spokane Community College

  2. T-spine • AP • Lateral • Pawlow (swimmers)

  3. AP T-Spine

  4. AP Structures shown AP projection of the thoracic bodies, intervertebral disk spaces, transverse processes, costovertebral articulations, and surrounding structures. ( All 12 thoracic vertebrae and the transverse processes)

  5. Filter

  6. Good Film • All 12 vertebrae should be included • Collimation inside breast shadows • Spinous process should appear at the midline of the vertebral bodies • Spine down center of film

  7. AP T-Spine

  8. Left lateral T-Spine

  9. Lateral T-Spine Structures shown • Lateral thoracic bodies T4 thru T12 (not 1- 3 because of the shoulders) and their interspaces, the intervertebral foramina, and the lower spinous processes.

  10. Good film • Vertebrae should be seen clearly through rib and lung shadows • 12th thoracic vertebrae should be on the film (could center lower to get L-1 because upper T1 thruT-3 are superimposed by shoulders) • Ribs superimposed posteriorly (rotation) • Collimation-not a CXR!

  11. Left Lateral T-Spine

  12. Rotation

  13. Positioning

  14. Pawlow or swimmer’s

  15. Pawlow Structures shown • A lateral projection of the cervicothoracic vertebrae is seen between the shadows of the shoulders

  16. Good Film • Vertebrae lateral • Shoulders should be seen separated from each other • Lower cervical and upper thoracic vertebra should be included. (C-5 thru T3) • Exposure to penetrate the shoulder region
