  1. Faith Virtue Knowledge “Knowledge” Speaker: Greg Steele A “Well-Rounded” Christian (2 Peter 1:5-11)

  2. 2nd Peter 1:6 …to moral excellence, add knowledge • Zeal without knowledge is common in the religious world (Romans 10:2-3) • Zeal is easy to come by (Acts 19:32) • You probably know some who have zeal without real knowledge

  3. True knowledge is essential 2nd Peter 1:8“If these things are yours and abound,…” • Two words used in this passage: • Gnosis –“seeking to know, an inquiry,…” • Epignosis – “Full knowledge” Life changing

  4. How big is the problem of ignorance? • God’s people destroyed! (Hosea 4:6) • Is this still true? Absolutely! • Those who do not love the truth, believe a lie (2nd Thessalonians 2:9-12) • Bible can be “rightly divided” or wrongly divided (2nd Timothy 2:15)

  5. Needed: A working knowledge • Overall knowledge of God’s Word is good • But, we must also be prepared to defend it! (1st Peter 3:15) • Error will come (2nd Peter 2:1-3) • Will you be ready?

  6. How do we grow our knowledge? • Short answer: Study • Determined – “Buy the truth…” implies a cost (Proverbs 23:23) • Methodical – The Bible is structured, our study should be also (1st Corinthians 14:33) • Careful – Understand only the intended truth – don’t twist the passage (2nd Peter 3:16)

  7. Knowledge can lead to arrogance (1st Corinthians 8:1-2) • It has its limits – can never replace love • God expects humility (James 4:6, 10) • We must be gentle with the weak (Galatians 6:1-3) • To our knowledge, add self-control
