  1. Anglicky v odborných předmětech"Support ofteachingtechnicalsubjects in English“ Tutorial: Engineering technology Topic: Plasma cutting Prepared by: Ing. Josef martinák st. Projekt Anglicky v odborných předmětech, CZ.1.07/1.3.09/04.0002 je spolufinancován Evropským sociálním fondem a státním rozpočtem České republiky.

  2. Plasma burnercutting Water cooling Gas for plasma electrode Cutting burner nozzle material Pilot electric arc Cutting joint Plasma ray Picture Plasma burner cutting

  3. Chart: Plasma burner cutting Usage Alloyed steels, non-iron metal, non-metals Material thickness to At separation(cutting) To Cutting speed At high-quality cutting Used gases Argon, nitrogen or their mixtures, helium, compressed air Advantages All metals high-speed cutting with high quality cutting Disadvantages Necessary precautions against noise, dust, gases and UV radiation

  4. Ways of material cutting Plate gauge number in mm Oxygen flame cutting Plasma ray cutting Laser ray cutting Picture Cutting shapes at different cutting ways

  5. By plasma ray at temperature30 000°C • It melts and immediately evaporates material at the place of ray incidence • Cutting is quick, cutting surroundings is not effected • Cutting width near burner is bigger

  6. Plasma Prof 55 – Machine section Controls and supervisory components are placed on front and back board(panel)

  7. Plasma Prof 55 – Machine section • A……Incoming cord. • B……Connection G1/4 entrance of compressed cutting air. • C……Mains switch to connect machine to el. current. • E……Setting controller of working pressure. • F……Pressure gauge which shows set working pressure. • G……Multifunctional indicator – primarily indicates generator overheating. • H……Connection of cutting burner CEBORA. Burner can not be changed. • I……..Digester - (purging vessel). Moisture and medium impurities gather there. • L……Indicator of insufficient pressure of cutting media. • M……Pilot light indicates connection to mains by C switch.

  8. Practical machine usage - cutting This is the way of materials´ penetration over 4 mm thickness Shifting speed cannot be too high

  9. Problems with plasma cutting • Ground cable is connected to material • High cutting speed • Worn out of electrode

  10. Arc switches off – burning is unsettled • There is not one phase in mains • There is too high air pressure • Cutting medium is dirty • Purging vessel I is choked

  11. Precautions • Any flammable materials or objects should not be near • Don’t cut vessels contaminated by combustibles • Not to weld near gas welding set

  12. Questions and revision • What precautions to take while flame cutting? • What materials are cut by plasma flame? • What gases are used?
