Overall Grant Goals • Increase student achievement • Increase teacher comfort level with use of technology & 21st century skills • Train additional teachers
MTA Goals • SA Goal #1: Student Achievement will increase by 1% for the schools participating in the June 2009 MTA, based upon the DSTEP test from the spring of 2009 to the spring of 2010. • GOAL PARTIALLY MET Students’ math scores in participating MTA schools increased by 2% for all grades and 3% for grades 9-12. Students in MTA schools performed better than the State Average. Reading scores in participating MTA schools decreased by 1% for all grades and 3% for grades 9-12. Students in MTA schools performed 1% better than the State Average for all grades, but 1% below the state average for grades 9-12. Science scores were unavailable at the time of this report.
MTA Goals • SA Goal #2: Based on the DSTEP data, there will be a decrease in the number of schools participating in the June 2009 MTA in SD who are identified for school improvement. • – GOAL NOT MET • School made AYP in 2010. • Four of the six schools identified for school improvement in 2010 made adequate yearly progress, but must make AYP for two consecutive years to be removed from the list.
MTA Goals • SA Goal #3: 80% of students in classrooms of June 2009 MTA participants will utilize 21st century skills in a current context by grant completion. • – GOAL EXCEEDED • 100% of the students in the classrooms of the 31 participating teachers utilized 21st century skills during the classroom observation.
MTA Goals • SA Goal #3, Objective 1: 80% of students in classrooms of June 2009 MTA participants will use 21st century tools. • – OBJECTIVE EXCEEDED • 99% of the students in the classrooms of the 31 participating teachers utilized 21st century tools during the classroom observation.
MTA Goals • PD Goal #1: 85% of the June 2009 MTA participating teachers (31) will complete all of the requirements of the Master Teacher Academy and train additional teachers in subsequent years. OBJECTIVE EXCEEDED • Objective#1: 50% of the June 2009 MTA participating teachers will increase their level of technology integration by one stage as measured by a team designed technology questionnaire. OBJECTIVE EXCEEDED (70.5%) • Objective#2: 95% of June 2009 MTA participants will implement two technology infused lesson plans or 1 unit. OBJECTIVE EXCEEDED

MTA Goals • PD Goal #2: • 80% of participating administrators will increase their understanding of 21st century skills as determined by pre and post surveys. GOAL NOT MET - Only four of the 31 administrators attended the two day workshop • Objective #1: • 80% of grant administrators will complete a minimum of two walkthrough visits to determine if building teachers are using 21st century skills while teaching students. OBJECTIVE NOT MET
MTA Goals • PD Goal #3: • Create an increased awareness of the 21st Century Framework in South Dakota teachers • Objective #1: • 35 teachers will increase their understanding of the 21st Century framework by participating in a 5 day Master Teacher Academy (MTA 2010) • OBJECTIVE EXCEEDED • 69 applicants were selected to attend – two declined in early June due to family conflicts. • 67 applicants were in attendance June 21-25, 2010

Synopsis • Successes • Many 2009 cohort teachers have taken on more of a leadership role in their schools – with providing professional development • Classroom practices have changed for 2009 cohort teachers (students are more in charge of their own learning) • 2010 Participants have a plan for sharing the information with colleagues (continuation beyond scope of the project) • Major challenges • Teachers are very nervous about using Live Meeting (even with training)
