History and Evolution • French word: “entreprendre” – take hands and do something • Cantillon (1755) identifies the entrepreneur as the innovator • An individual who invents and applies new techniques to reduce cost and raise profits • Baudeau talks about someone who has ability and intelligence (AHA!!what forms of intelligence? Great student!!!!!

  3. Jean Baptiste Say, Adam Smith & Schumpeter • Baptiste Say: made his mark in the late 1700’s as he coined the concept of entrepreneurship with specifically focusing on behavior. Since then entrepreneurship began to play a distinctive role in academic field. • Adam Smith (1723-1790): Famous book on Wealth of Nations: Combined entrepreneurial viewpoints with those of capitalist. • New views began to emerged in the ninetieth century as Schumpeter took the stage. He noted entrepreneurs have special skills and traits. Growing attention of entrepreneurs as agents of change has been bolstered by the theoretical work of Joseph Schumpeter. Economic growth is not necessarily from money but innovation.

Bringing it all together: Let us define folks…. • Economic Perspective: Entrepreneur is the organizer and the innovator of business. • Behaviorist Perspective: Scientific profile has not been established as yet, today we look at skills, competencies as well as training and management • Management Perspective : First Doctoral conference in Babson Massachusetts in 1981. • Social Perspective: Which groups are more entrepreneurial than others? • Entrepreneurial Perspective: Someone who creates something new of value and devotes his/her time to make it happen.

What is entrepreneurship and what not? • Laziness is not, Complaining is definitely not • However; Art , Soccer Music, Commercial Businesses you name it. • Will I ever become one (1): Yes, we all were born to be great, why not you? You have been chosen rise to the occasion ladies and gentleman
