The communist government took those steps to remove what it saw as obstacles to unify national support for the ideaology of communism Communist leaders used centripetal forces to discourage ethnicities from expressing their cultural uniqueness. Even though government in Eastern Europe tried their best, they did not completely suppress ethnicities.
