  2. Norms and values • A norm is rules defining appropriate and not expected behavior. • Values are broad ideas about what most people in society consider to be desirable.

  3. Technology, language and symbols. • Technologyis Machinery and equipment developed from such scientific knowledge. • Language is any nonverbal method of expression or communication. • Symbols range from physical object to smells, standards, and taste.

  4. Q: What kind of clothes did you wear and what were the trends? • A: Feathered hair, stick up bangs, multicolored clothes, side pony tails, teased hair, spandex, tight Minnie skirts, off the shoulder shirts and leg warmers. • Same: Teens today still tease their hair, wear off the shoulder shirts, and wear side pony tails. • Differences: Teens today don’t wear spandex, Minnie skirts leg warmers and do not have feathered hair.

  5. What kind of technology did you use? • A: they used radios, a little t.v, cd rom, brick cell phone, fridge, cassette tapes, first computers, pac man • Same: today teens still listen to radios but usually only in the car. Music is played mostly off cell phones. Teens still use computers but they are more up to date. They also use cell phones but its not the brick it’s a touch screen phone like the iphone. • Differences: Teens don’t use cassette tapes anymore or cd roms. Instead we have ipods to listen too. No one uses a cd roms anymore because a lot of people don’t sit and play games on the computer they play xbox instead.

  6. What kind of things did you do with your family/friends? • A: eat meals together, hang out at each others houses, talk on the phone, hang at the mall, ride bikes, go roller skating, go swimming, watch mtvand take a lot of family vacations. • Similarities: In 2012 teens still watch mtv but theirs more on mtv then just music videos. Teens still go to the mall and swim . Except teens rather go to the mall to shop instead of hang with friends. They also still swim during the summer but not as much as people use too. • Changes: Today teens don’t talk on the phone as much they usually text or face time off of the Iphone. No one today goes roller skating only little kids every once in a while.

  7. What kind of music did you listen too? • A: a lot of people from the 80’s listen too mostly things on the radio. Like rock and alternative music. Also we listen to singers like MichealJackson and PhillColins. • Same: today in 2012 teens listen to a little bit of rock but not much. People today refer to MichealJackson as being the king of pop and still really like his music. • Differences: today in 2012 teens listen to all different kind of music ranging from hip hop, r&b, rap, and country. A lot of the music style has changed since the 80’s when my mom was growing up.

  8. How were the prices from the 80’s different from prices of today? • A: The price of gas was a lot cheaper then gas today it only coasts $1.25 for a gallon of gas. Also If we wanted to see a movie the ticket would only coast $2.69. • Same: None • Different: Today if you want to fill your car up with some gas it will coast you about $3.50 and up depending on where you get your gas from. When you go see a movie the prices are much higher then $2.69 a ticket. They are usually $8 or more.

  9. How was your relationship with your neighbors? • A: I knew most of my neighbors and hung out with mostly the people that lived in my area or close to me. I trusted them and knew them pretty well. • Similarities: None • Differences: Today people do not get to know their neighbors as well because not as much people spend their free time being outside. So people don’t feel obligated to get to know them. Also a lot of the only people you hung with was the people you lived next to and know we have more technology where we can get together with people that don’t live right in our area.

  10. How did you find out information about what's going on in the world? • A: we would mostly read the newspaper or watch the news on T.V to find out what the latest news and current events are. • Same: People in 2012 rarely read the news paper anymore. A lot of people still watch the news on television. • Different: Most people today to get information will use the internet because it is the most fastest way to find things out rather then wait for the newspaper to come and flip threw it and find what you are looking for.

  11. How would you communicate with people? • A: I would go over to a friends house go to the door and see if they were home. Or I would have to call their house phone and sometimes the line would be busy and it would take a while for them to get back to me. • Same: Today to get a hold of someone we still will give them a call but usually on their cell phone and not house phone. • Differences: To communicate with people today a lot of teens will text the person they want to talk to or they use one of the social net works like facebookor twitter. No one really would go to their house to talk to them unless they don’t answer their phone or texts.

  12. What would you do for fun? • A: I would do more activities outside because their was more things to do outside then inside. I would also mostly hang out with people who lived near me and we would go to places to hang that were close or near to us. • Similarities: Teens today will sometimes hang with people who live around them because they have grown up with some of them. • Differences: In 2012 teens usually will hang out with people that live further distances because they have more in common with them and its easier to get a hold of them.

  13. What were some of the symbols from the 80’s? • A: A Rubik's cube was one of the biggest symbols of the 80’s.also we played games like Pac man, donkey Kong and Tetris. Roller skaiting was also popular thing to do. • Same: Teens today will try the Rubik’s cube every once in a while. They will also play Pac man sometimes but on the computer or at a arcade. • Different: Most Teens don’t roller blade in their free time.

  14. Why I think some things have changed and stayed the same.. • A: I think the prices from 1980 to 2012 have changed due to how the economy has changed over the past years. Depending on how good are economy is doing affects the way prices are set for. In the 1980s prices were lower because people were recovering from a recession and inflation is what helped the prices become to low.
