  2. An Overview of Year 10 October Careers Fair (2nd) Target Grades Set Lionheart Challenge (29th)

  3. Targets • Re-set later this term. • Based on measures of ability - eg Key Stage 2 Test Results. • Minimum performance targets - many students will do even better! • Reported to parents and reporting system will reflect the progress made towards those targets.

  4. An Overview of Year 10 Throughout Year 10 Controlled Assessments

  5. Controlled Assessments • Replacement for coursework. • The task may be set directly by the Awarding Body, or it may be adapted by the school to suit the students’ learning. • Research can be done unsupervised out of the classroom. • Writing-up will need to be done in the classroom in normal lesson times. • The usual practice is that controlled assessments are marked by teaching staff (and then moderated by the Awarding Body).

Year 10 English • Complete all of the English Language Controlled Assessments (worth 40% of the GCSE) • English Language Trial Exams (w/b Mon 3rd March & w/b Mon 5th May) • Weekly English Language Revision Classes after school from Easter • Students will be given revision materials; recommended revision book available from Amazon

  15. English Language Exam (60%) • Unit 1 (Reading, 1 hour) - Tuesday 3rd June (am) • Unit 2 (Writing, 1 hour) - Tuesday 3rd June (am)

  16. Year 11 English • GCSE English Literature • NB Students may be re-grouped for English following receipt of the Summer 2014 results

  23. **Maths Exam (100%) • Paper 1 (2 hours) - Monday 9th June (am) - non-calculator paper • Paper 2 (2 hours) - Tuesday 17th June (am) - calculator paper

Year 10 Science • Complete the Controlled Assessments (ISAs, worth 25% of the GCSE) • Plan, do and answer questions on an experiment and then answer questions on data from a similar experiment (2 papers per ISA) • 2 ISAs: starting w/b Mon 28th October (‘Carbonates’) and w/b Mon 24th February (‘Reflection’) • 2 weeks per ISA; best mark counts; undertaken in lessons with opportunity to do research outside of lessons • Regular tests, with Trial Exams in April/May • Revision Classes – although students encouraged throughout year to ‘drop-in’ (eg lunchtimes) in pairs/groups to go over topics/concepts • Factsheets / revision notes provided

  26. Science Exams (25% each) • Biology Unit 1 (1 hour) - Friday 6th June (pm) • Chemistry Unit 1 (1 hour) - Tuesday 10th June (pm) • Physics Unit 1 (1 hour) - Thursday 12th June (am)
