  3. 622 CE Muhammad & his followers make hijra to Madinah 570CE Muhammad (S) is born At the age of 40 Muhammad becomes Allah’s Prophet & Messenger

  4. When the Messenger(S) entered Al Medina, in 622CE, he left his she-camel to kneel where Allah wished. Where the she-camel had knelt, the Messenger(S), built his Masjid there.

  5. The original Prophet's Masjid was built by Muhammad himself, after entering Medina. The original Masjid was an open-air building, with a raised platform for the reading of the Quran. It was a square enclosure, built with palm trunks and mud walls, and accessed through three doors: Bab Rahmah, Bab Jibril and Bab al-Nisa'.

  6. As it stands today, the Prophet's Masjid has a rectangular plan on two floors. The main prayer hall occupies the entire first floor. The Masjid enclosure is 100 times bigger than the first Masjid built by the Prophet and can hold more than half a million worshippers.

  8. The most notable feature of the Prophet's Mosque is the green Dome of the Prophet. This is where the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad is located. He died in 632CE/10AH.

  9. At the heart of the Masjid is a very special but small area named ar-Rawdah an-Nabawiyah (Arabic: الروضة النبوية), which extends from the tomb of the prophet to his pulpit. All pilgrims attempt to visit and pray in ar-Rawdah, for there is a tradition that supplications and prayers uttered here are never rejected.
