For events that ask you to define, write the definition on the timeline where you place that event. • For Example – Rise of City States – independent city-states are called “Polis.” Athens is an example of a polis.

Tyrant rule of city-states – define tyrant • The beginning of SPARTA • Archons – Athens = Draco, Solon, Cleisthenes • Birth of Democracy – define direct and indirect democracy • Persian Wars • Peloponnesian War • Rise of city-states – define polis • Homer – The Iliad and the Odyssey • 1st Olympic Games • Rise of Aristocracies – definition of Aristocracy • Pericles • The Golden Age = list important philosophers, events, buildings during this era • Alexander the Great • Hellenistic World = list important philosophers, events, buildings during this era • Minoan Civilization • Mycenaean Civilization
