Student Centered Investigation - The Relationship between Polynomials and Matrices • Objective - Using open ended investigation, teachers will learn how to refocus lessons from those that give students information to those that assist students in discovering the information for themselves. • How – By using the relationship between polynomial functions and matrices, I will give insight on how to help students learn new material through self-exploration by posing investigatory questions. You will explore how to question students in a manner that allows the flow of alesson to move in a specific direction based on student responses to questions. • Conclusion - At the end of this session, you will have developed an open-ended investigation, posing interesting questions that allow students to explore material through inquiry.
Creating a lesson based on student investigation • Objective - What is the topic you want students to investigate? • Activating Prior Knowledge - How can you question students to retrieve prior knowledge? • Investigate - What questioning techniques can be used to allow students to find the needed information for themselves? • Think about it… - What do students need to consider when applying this information? • Application - How can students apply the learned material themselves?
