  1. Welcome to the Eagles’ Nest a.k.a. Fourth Grade Hello. My name is

  2. SPECIALS Monday: Spanish & Computer Lab Tuesday: Music & P.E. Wednesday: Computer Lab Thursday: Music & P.E. Friday: Spanish

  3. E-mails: · Ms. Gutjahr: annmarie.gutjahr@saintanncs.com · Ms. Ulmer (math): Sylvia.ulmer@saintanncs.com School Website: http://saintanncs.com/ .

  4. Planners · As part of the added responsibility in fourth grade, we use planners. At the end of each day, students are expected to copy their homework from the board. · On Monday, we put in as much as we can for the entire week. This gives you the opportunity to be flexible if you have a busy week. It gives you the opportunity to work ahead.

  5. Curriculum What is the big difference between third and fourth grade? As students move from primary to intermediate there is a jump. Together, we can make this transition as easy as possible for your child. · Students are now given letter grades. Please see Student Handbook for more specifics. · Students are asked to take on more responsibility. For example, they are asked to fill out a planner with their homework at the end of the day. .

  6. · With the Graded Course of Study from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, academic rigor will ask students to use high level thinking skills. Students will no longer just have to “spit back” common facts, but learn and practice applying them. We will be reaching for the higher level thinking skills.

  7. · Students are no longer learning to read, they are reading to learn. Content areas such as social studies and science are given more emphasis. · Vocabulary is stressed. · Writing in complete sentences is expected. · By the end of fourth grade, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati expects students to have mastered cursive handwriting.

  8. Homework Passes Students are given 6 homework passes each quarter. Homework passes are a 24-hour grace period for assignments (not projects). If a student does not have the assignment the next day, they will be issued a detention. Homework passes may not be used for items that are to have a parent/ guardian’s signature.

  9. If a students does not have an assignment when it is asked for, then they must use a homework pass. If they complete the assignment and turn it in later in the day, they do not get the pass back. Ms. Ulmer and I work together that a student only uses 1 pass per day. That way if they forgot their take home folder on the kitchen table and it has three assignments in it, they would not loose three passes in one day.

  10. In fourth grade, students are given 3 at the beginning of the quarter to be responsible for by keeping them in their pencil bag. They receive the other 3 midway through the quarter.

  11. Classroom Management Ms. Ulmer and I use a three strike system. If a rule is broken, a name goes on the board, and they loose 10 minutes of recess. If problems continue, a check mark is placed by their name, and they loose 20 minutes of recess. They are given one more chance. If a student gets to three strikes in one day, demerits will be issued. Obviously, if a serious infraction of the Student Handbook occurs, demerits will be issued immediately. Please see more specifics about demerits in the School Handbook.

  12. Classroom Rules Do your best. Be ready to learn. Eyes forward and listen. Raise your hand. Be respectful. Say please and thank you. Share and take turns. Keep hands to yourself. Follow directions. Try new things. Believe in yourself. Work hard and have fun.

  13. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are in this together.
